What is it that makes a good year? What are the conditions that carve the future Of whose glorious amazing bounty will win this year’s award? They all compete for the title of the most amazing of the year. Yet last year’s performance has no bearing on today. This year it was Hepatica who won the prize. The hill was awash with lavender, blue and white. Last year’s blaze of white won Bloodroot its spot with the bounteous tree skirt so briefly worn. Two years ago, the Bluebells were best of the show. They made a meadow as true as their name. So what’s next year? It’s anyone’s guess. The mystery will be revealed when winter fades.
Come join us for an easy half-mile hike along the Briggs Woods Wildflower trail. Wear suitable shoes and maybe bring a camera. Wildflowers may include Hepatica, Blue Squill, Bloodroot, Dutchman’s Breeches, Wild Ginger, Dogtooth Violet (White Trout Lily), False Rue Anemone, Virginia Bluebells, Violet, Toothwart, Spring Beauty, Red Trillium, Toadshade, Large Flowered Trillium, May Apple, Bellwort, and Jack in the Pulpit depending on the season!
