5/19/23 Donora Riverfront Cleanup
The Monongahela River is our river of focus for 2023! Join us in Donora for our a riverfront cleanup in collaboration with the Donora Historical Society and Smog Musuem, M&N Heating and Cooling, Three Rivers WaterKeeper and GASP. It has been 75 years since the 1948 Donora Smog Disaster. This cleanup will be the kickoff for a series of events hosted by the Donora Historical Society and Smog Museum to mark the anniversary and remember the victims.
What will we be doing?
Allegheny CleanWays will be spending the day in Donora for our Monongahela River Cleanup Series! Allegheny CleanWays' Riverfront Cleanup Program, the Tireless Project, will be working with volunteers from the land and water via our work boats. We will remove trash that has accumulated along the riverfront.
We will be meeting at Apex, parking will be available. Our cleanup will run from 4:30 - 7:30. We will have someone at the registration table to accommodate anyone that will be arriving later.
Dinner will be provided for all volunteers immediately following the cleanup at the Donora Smog Museum.
What do I wear?
Clothes: Please wear clothes that you are comfortable with potentially getting muddy/wet. Volunteers are required to wear long pants. We also recommend bringing long-sleeve shirt to avoid being scratched or coming in contact with poison ivy and sun. It is also suggested to bring a change of clothes in case you have a bit too much fun pulling a muddy tire.
Footwear: Closed-toe shoes are required. We recommend rubber boots or waterproof boots.
What do I bring?
Please be sure to bring your reusable water bottle!
All volunteers will be provided with work gloves, life jackets, safety glasses, and tools. We will also have all necessary safety equipment available such as first aid, sunscreen, bug spray, and refreshments.
All volunteers will be provided with a t-shirt, food, and drinks!
Please send any questions or comments to [email protected]! See you on the water!
