About Manual Market
The Manual Market was established in 2017 and has seen overwhelming support from our alumni community, our greater Whittier community and the staff and students at Manual.
We aimed to begin a movement on campus where the Whole Child can be cared for and students and their families benefit from nutritious meals and snacks outside of school.
Highlighted in a 2018 Article in Capitol Hill Life, our Manual Manual started with a small vision by our school nurse who saw a large need. She found herself assessing students for health conditions, which could be solved with proper nutrition. The nurse reached out for help from Friends of Manual and donations in time and money from community members began to pour in. In 2019, The Manual Market became a Partner Agency with Food Bank of the Rockies and during the pandemic of 2020 the Manual Market launched a home delivery program - delivering food directly to families every Friday.
What began as a snack drawer in the school nurse's office has turned into a thriving Market where our community can nourish its mind, body and soul.
What we need (besides financial support):
- Food and hygiene items (specifically shelf-stable food donations-granola bars, pasta, canned food, and feminine hygiene products, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo/conditioner, body wash, lotion, chapstick, etc.)
- Volunteers to help organize shelves of the Market at the school
- Volunteers on Fridays for food box delivery - we meet Friday at noon to deliver food to families
