The mission of the 100 Black Men of Metro New Orleans, Inc. (“The 100”) is to provide support and improve the quality of life for African Americans, and youth in particular, in the New Orleans Community. Chartered in 1992, the 100 Black Men of Metro New Orleans, Inc. is a member of the international 100 Black Men of America, Inc., which was founded in 1963.
The chapter has an aggressive plan entitled, Four For The Future, to address four key areas to strengthen the future of black youth: mentoring, education, health and wellness and economic empowerment. Leadership development is also fused into all of its programming.
The 100’s programs are based on a simple principle: Through sustained mentoring programs, young people realize their potential. The Chapter’s holistic program addresses the social, emotional and cultural needs of children ages 8-18, with a primary focus on young Black men. As needed, mentoring is available for girls within our programming and through collaborations with local woman-led organizations.
The 100’s membership and its mentors are exclusively Black males. Members of the 100 are trained and certified to become mentors, advocates, and role models for the youth within their communities. Through chapter-operated one-on-one and group mentoring efforts, our members forge relationships that positively impact our greatest resource, our youth. The program focuses on building essential skills needed to become productive, contributing citizens.
Workshops for youth include topics such as:
• Positive Self Identity and Personal Vision
• Life Skills
• Social and Emotional Skills
• Moral Character
• Career Exploration and Skills Development
• Health and Wellness
The 100 Black Men of Metro New Orleans operate weekly mentoring programs at local schools in addition to convening a monthly Saturday Academy, open to youth throughout the Greater New Orleans Area.
The 100 Black Men of Metro New Orleans is a volunteer organization, dependent on the support of its members, philanthropy and individual donors to fulfill its mission.
