Every year we hold our Annual Feed the Need Tournament. The event is more than just a game of basketball and friendly competition. Since 2010, this event has helped us raise over $200,000 for our global projects. Things were different last year, we didn't hold our in person event due to COVID-19. However, that didn't change the fact that we NEEDED funding for our projects. Our tournament funds nearly a full year of operating costs at our Maternal and Child Healthcare facility in Sierra Leone AND our Konadu Basic School in Ghana. I am so grateful that despite a gap year, we were able to raise $35,000 to help us keep our work going.
HOW DO FUNDS HELP US?
Healthcare in Sierra Leone: Six years ago we launched our mission for free and quality healthcare in Sierra Leone. In this time we have treated over 20,000 patients and delivered over 450 healthy babies. Today, your funding allows us to launch our venture into a new village that needs us. These funds will help us complete the nurses quarters at our facility so that we can retain trained staff on site. We know that babies are born at all times of the day and night! It will also fund important programs such as our acute malnutrition program which supports more than 30 malnourished children under the age of 5. Children are rotated through the program, achieving proper nutritional status in just a few months.
Education in Ghana: When we adopted the Konadu Basic School in 2013 there were just 3 classrooms and 80 students. Today, the facility boasts a daycare, primary and secondary curriculum classes, a growing mushroom farm venture and more than 19 staff. The classrooms are made of an ecoship structure of mud and recycled tires. However the structure is too small for the growing study body and it will not last the test of time. Last year we started building a brick structure. The first floor of this facility is complete (thanks to last year's Feed the Need campaign) and it currently houses a library and computer lab. The funds will help us to start construction on the 2nd floor of this facility. It will also help us fund ongoing expenses to run this school. More than 320 students from underprivileged backgrounds rely on this school for an education.
WILL MY DONATION MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
Think your donation won't make a difference? In 2019 alone, the collective efforts of hundreds of donors and sponsors helped us achieve a record setting $63,000 in donations.
