This will be our second annual background check event.
Black Liberation Fund is known as a bail fund, but in the last year we have been working to cover legal fees including background check, pardon, and expungement processes as well. Our goal this year is to help 50 to 100 more people.
This year’s first event is scheduled for
February 19, 2022.
We will have 3 food trucks and 10 vendors.
This is a free event.
There will be swag bags and food bank giveaways to those who register and attend.
We are collaborating with local lawyers and the partner organization Root and Rebound. There will be pre-registration for this event. This pre-registration is required of anyone requesting a background check. Interested persons can contact [email protected] for a link to pre-register.
Pre-Registration Required for background check!!
Black Liberation Fund recognizes that there is stigma around having a criminal record. It is our hope that the community sees this event as a place where shame has no place. We also hope to bring levity to our community in these trying times.
We are encouraging everyone to wear masks to keep community members safe.
About Black Liberation Fund:
The mission of the Black Liberation Fund is to free the Black community. The Black Liberation Fund works to alleviate obstacles and hardships that the stigma of incarceration brings to Black families and incarcerated persons through an abolitionist framework offering direct services, education, advocacy, and resources.
We envision a world without mass incarceration and the institutions that currently support it. We offer resources and sustainable alternatives to imprisonment through programming, community partnerships, and advocacy to help Black families and communities affected by the prison industrial complex. We are building our own healthy and sustainable communities.
