About End of the Year 2021 - We Need You

Blessings and Seasons Greetings from Kunsi Keya Tamakoce!

We would like to extend a heartfelt prayer to you and your loved ones as we come to the end of another year. The last two years have been unimaginably difficult and we are hopefully, almost at the end of this pandemic.

It's winter in the North East at the home of Kunsi Keya and time to settle down into our roots. On the Great Wheel, North connects us to Home, Earth, Red, and Community. It also connects us to the Blood, sweat, and tears of lineage and legacy, those who have gone before and those who will come after. What we know for sure, is that we are the heart that sustains the reality of our Kunsi Keya home.

Forty years ago, Beverly Little Thunder, was faced with a difficult choice: to listen to spirit to embrace her true self or buy into the belief that she was not worthy to hold the traditional teachings of the Lakota. She chose herself and to create a path and a home for two-spirit people where they could be safe until the tribes embraced them.  What we can learn from this truth is that we must always listen to spirit.

We have the land and its many projects to sustain and with your help, we have made great strides towards solvency and sustainability, yet the need for ongoing support is still great. A generous benefactor has also stepped forward offering a 3 to 1 match for the first $5,000 raised in our year-end call for support, in the spirit of continued sustainability.

With sincerity, things are tough on the mountain. The holders of the vision are advancing in age and it’s up to us to pick up our power. A key to our growth has been our coming together as we stay present to each other and the very real needs of the land. For the last two years, we have not been able to do that in a meaningful way and there has been a real reckoning of how we will go forward to pay off the land, honor our commitments to the visionary founders, and build the infrastructure for the future. Recently, we were faced with as little as $5 in the bank, and still, spirit says go forward, let the people know, make the ask, and trust the work that has been done to bring forward generous support.

We know that these times are challenging for many of us and your thoughts and prayers go a long way. In this giving season, we are calling for those who can to share a little and those with more to share a lot to ensure the vision of this sacred, safe space is sustained and nurtured into the far-reaching future.

With All Our Love and Sincere Gratitude,

The Kunsi Keya Board
