In celebration of Women’s History Month, join Caribbean Equality Project for Erotic Cartographies: Decolonization and the Queer Caribbean Imagination - A Community Conversation with Dr. Krystal Ghisyawan.

Join us on March 24, 2022, between 5 to 7 PM EST as we cultivate a community conversation about her newly published book “Erotic Cartographies” and the ongoing work of queer Caribbean social justice initiatives from the region to its diasporas.

Born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, while currently residing in Lawrenceville, GA, Dr. Ghisyawan’s critical research interrogates questions of queer Caribbean community-making, sexuality, identity, desire, and family through examining the everyday ways in which Caribbean communities theorize, resist, and re-imagine spaces of queerness. Focusing on the realm of women’s same-sex desire - an area of study hugely under-researched within the field of queer and Caribbean studies, Dr. Ghisywan moves us through critical reflections on queer knowledge that is housed in the geographies and bodies of Caribbean living and being.

Krystal will be joined by Dr. Nikoli Attai (University of Toronto), and Dr. Preity Kumar (Hamilton College) as they collaborate to reflect on the decolonial teachings Erotic Cartographies offers us. The conversation will be moderated by Ryan Persadie (Cultural Researcher at the Caribbean Equality Project) and will hold space for audience questions and discussion.
