Welcome to our House Concerts for 2022. We have another round of exciting performances where the audience may also participate by interacting with the artist.
*UPDATE: Due to certain unforeseen circumstances the subject of this House Concert has now changed.*
An Introduction to Mohiniyattam
featured artist, Dr. Athira Omanakuttan, is a Bentonville-based master of Mohiniyattam
dance. Athira started learning classical Indian dance at a very young age and
has trained in Mohiniyattam, Bharathanatyam, and Kuchipudi from prominent gurus,
including Kalamandalm Satyabhama Jr, for over 18 years.
has performed in several prestigious festivals in her beautiful home state of Kerala,
securing first prize in state school and college-level dance competitions, and
in college youth festivals.
Athira Omanakuttan holds a doctorate in Biotechnology and moved to Bentonville
in 2017. Upon arriving in Northwest Arkansas, she discovered and performed in
several programs as a part of Team Daffodils. Currently, Athira is pursuing her
passion for and expanding her knowledge of Mohiniyattam, the ancient dance form
that gets its name from the word Mohini––a
historical enchantress avatar of the Hindu God Vishnu,
who helps the good prevail over evil by developing her feminine powers.
Event is free for members and $10 for everyone else.
