The mystery of the Most Holy Trinity, of "the one God in Trinity and Trinity in unity," is the most central dogma of the Christian faith; however, it is also the most difficult to artistically represent. As a result, this subject poses an immense challenge to artists of every age. Blair’s presentation, “Making Visible the Invisible, The Dogma of the Trinity in Sacred Art,” will explore the history of the visual representation of the Trinity within the Catholic tradition. She will map out how various councils, Church doctrine, and different cultures have affected our visual tradition. She seeks to answer the question: “What is the most fitting representation of the Most Holy Trinity?”
The St. Louis IX Art Society exists to create a culture of Catholic art in South Louisiana. As an integral part of this mission, SL9 hosts an annual Fall lecture devoted to some aspect of Catholic art history, which ranges from the life and work of a given Catholic artist to the manner in which a particular Catholic doctrine or idea has been portrayed in various works of art across time and cultures.
For our Fall 2022 lecture, SL9 Artist Blair Gordy Piras will be our presenter. This event will take place on Thursday, September 22, 2022 in the Schulte Auditorium at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans from 7:00-8:00 PM. This event is free and open to the public, but be sure to register to reserve your spot!
