VOOM Foundation's medical volunteer services are free of charge, yet there are still a cost associated to patient care in Nigeria. Families who cannot afford the cost of surgery often opt out of surgery or diligently work to raise funds from friends, family, and church members. Items such as pre and post-operative scans, hospital stay, medications, and items related to patient care are required by each patients. With almost 50% or the 211M living in Nigeria living under the poverty line, open-heart surgery becomes unaffordable to almost half the country. VOOM Foundation reaches out to individuals, corporations, and organizations interested in granting one indigent patient the opportunity for surgery. The cost is $2,500.
