About ART is LIGHT
The Drawing Room Inc. is in the final stages of becoming its own non-profit corporation! Our mission is to activate empty, distressed retail spaces in San Francisco by transforming them into community art spaces available to the public as well as facilitate open calls to local artists to cultivate, curate, and display their art. When The Drawing Room Inc.’s staff and volunteers are able to successfully activate these distressed spaces, we can do so much! For instance:
- Art exhibitions that engage local artists artists of all career levels and from all ages, physical abilities, socio-economic backgrounds, and ethnicities to broaden their reach by providing a learning platform to create, show and sell their work
- Workshop space that creates opportunities for artists to teach the community and take part in artist residencies
- Youth mentoring programs including our UnderStudy Program which provide opportunities for high school and college age students to learn gallery management, curation and design skills.
- Partnerships and alliances with non profits and community organizations to support our goal of engaging youth and building networks of people committed to strengthening the arts in our city. These partnerships have included Art for AIDS, Hospitality House, First Exposures, Breakthrough SF, Litquake/Lit Crawl, the San Francisco Community Music Center, SF Skateclub, Larkin Street Youth Services, DrawBridge and many others.
We need your support to create a meaningful, long lasting art institution that serves our artists and neighbors. Please join us in this effort!
