In this webinar, Victoria will discuss my recent paper on how sexual pleasure and intimacy shape contraceptive decisions, based on ethnographic research with women using specialist contraceptive services in London. She will explore how contraceptive use is not solely about avoiding pregnancy but also reflects and enhances intimacy, communication, and trust within relationships. These empirical insights into intimacy illustrate that contraceptive choice is both a reflection of the perceived intimacy in a relationship and is also a “practice of intimacy”, particularly when people are navigating the various intimacies available.
