About VOOM Pediatric Interventional Cardiology Mission
Dear Friends and Family,
The VOOM Foundation is excited to share that we launched our first pediatric interventional cardiology mission this week. We have been overwhelmed by the need for pediatric cardiac cath procedures in Nigeria. Many patients have shown up at our partner hospital, the Dame Irene Okwuosa Memorial Hospital, with urgency for support and life-saving interventions. Unfortunately, we have limited resources, so I am asking you to consider a gift for this program so that we can continue to support as many children as possible on this mission.
Dr. Oliver Barry, a pediatric interventional cardiologist from Columbia Medical Center, is leading this program with his team from New York City. This week, PDA and ASD device closures were performed.
The pictures you see here are of one of our cath patients— 4-year-old, Winner! She is our first interventional cardiology patient. She was treated for PDA. A transcatheter PDA closure is a minimally invasive (non-surgical) procedure to close the ductus arteriosus. Our pediatric cardiac interventionists used cardiac catheterization to place a small device in the vessel, which closed the PDA.
We are asking for your support for the VOOM Foundation Pediatric Cath Patient Scholarships so that patients with no options can have a solution without the financial burden. You are helping save a child's life, bringing a family together, and providing hope for the future. Our goal is to raise enough funds to provide 10 patient scholarships.
Gratefully,
Dr. Vincent Ohaju
