Tired of seeing the "forums are overloaded" when you visit a forum page? Too busy to wait around for the increasingly frequent delays that come when you send a new post? So are we! We're raising money to move the forums to a new server and put these issues behind us. And in the process, we're taking the burden of paying the server costs away from Vladimir Panteleev. When Vladimir first released DFeed and used it as the web interface for the D newsgroups, aka the D Forums, the forums were blazing fast. From the beginning, Vladimir has been supporting the D forums on his own time and out of his own pocket. Over the years, for various reasons, performance problems have stacked up, and forum users have been frustrated by outages and delays. Moving to a new server will be a major step toward solving these issues. To that end, It's time we show Vladimir how much we appreciate what he's done for us over the years. He refuses to accept payment for the work he does in maintaining the software, but we think it's time he stopped paying for the server. The D Language Foundation is asking the D community to help us reach our target of $2000. This will cover one year of server rental, enough for an upgrade over what Vladimir's currently using and a little bit of padding for incidental expenses. This is a campaign we'd like to run every year so that he never has to pay out of his pocket for the server again. So please, help us take this expense away from Vladimir's pockets, especially if you're a D Forum user. If you'd also like to support his development of Free Software in the broader sense, Vladimir has a Patreon account where you can do so.
