Back in October we received a referral from the State for a very deserving grandma and grandpa who took in nine, yes nine, grandchildren ages 2-15. Within minutes of a newsletter going out, our community responded and helped Grandma and Grandpa Goodness with groceries, coats, Halloween costumes, and much more.
“No one has ever gifted my children anything except for me.” – Grandma Goodness Within one month we matched Grandma & Grandpa Goodness in the Love Box program and this family has been supported financially and emotionally ever since. The Love Box group has helped provide a Thanksgiving meal, Christmas presents, and even made Valentine’s day cards for the littles to bring to classmates. Recently the Love Box Leader shared with their Austin Angels Case Manager that the family of eleven is in a less-than-ideal living situation. The home they rent is a mere 884 sq. ft. that often floods when it rains and has one bathroom with a sink that doesn’t drain. They don’t have room to do homework, sit all together at the dinner table, or have friends over. Two of the oldest children sleep together in the living room so their siblings can have the remaining space. We know that it is not the house that makes a home but this sweet family is past capacity and are prevented from thriving. The family has an unspeakable bond that has carried them through difficult and dark times and despite their living conditions are doing well and settling in to their new normal. The siblings care deeply for each other and desire to stay all together and with their grandparents. If Grandma Goodness wouldn’t or couldn’t have stepped in to bring them home, they would have been split up and scattered, growing up without each other in the foster care system. The Goodness kids are dreaming of a home where everyone has space to do their homework, has their own bed to sleep in, yard to run and play in, and most importantly, where they can feel safety, comfort, love, and like a normal family. The good news is that we can make this dream a reality. If we can raise enough money to help the Goodness family cover the expenses associated with moving into a new home, as well as a portion of the rent for the first few months, the family can move to adoption. They will then be eligible to receive adoption financial assistance, allowing them to be able to afford rent on a larger home. This is a sustainable solution. Their Love Box Leader is committed to seeing this through and helping with any other needs that may arise, but we need YOUR help to make this big transition a reality. If you would like to help the Goodness family transition into a bigger home, donate below to help cover the moving costs, furniture needs, and some of the rent difference.
