Starting over in a new state can be difficult, and it can be even more of a challenge when working to find quality care for a loved one with a disability. Jasmine and her family moved to the Denver area just a little over a year ago. Her mother Taimica works as a bus para for Denver Public Schools to support Jasmine and her two other daughters who are also on the Autism spectrum. Jasmine requires constant care, and Taimica found a place she can trust to care for Jasmine in Megan's Place.
As Taimica herself says, "Now
as a single parent of three girls on the spectrum, I would be unable to work if not for Megan's
Place. I have little family here and no one to entrust the care of my firstborn
to while I work. Megan's place is God sent. Not only can I work and know that
my child is in good hands but I know that she's being cared for like I would
care for her. Megan's place enriches Jasmine's life in a way that helps her
mentally and physically. The staff there challenge her to step outside her
comfort zone in a safe environment. They also take her on field trips like the
special needs dance classes or big-times trampoline park. These activities
insure that when I bring her home at night she is tired and will sleep through
the night, which is healthy for her physically and healthy for me
mentally. In short, I just would not be
able to be the best mother I can without Megan's Place."
Jasmine is still on the waitlist for funding through Medicaid. She does receive some assistance, but it's not enough to cover the costs necessary to keep Jasmine in attendance at Megan's Place. Taimica spends nearly her entire paycheck on care. The family lives in an apartment with another extended family member, sharing a small space for five people. With your help, Taimica can get closer to her goal of finding adequately spaced affordable housing.
We are asking our community to help us raise $8000 for this entire school year. Our goal will be ongoing until the summer, and we encourage setting up a monthly donation to help along the way.
A donation of $50 covers one entire day of care.
A donation of $250 covers an entire week of care.
A donation of $1000 ensures an entire month of after school, quality care for Jasmine.
Infinity Foundation cannot do the work we do without your generous donations. Every bit helps and is a step in the right direction for the families and individuals we support.
