After achieving a historic milestone with the passage of the California Public Banking Act (AB 857) at the end of 2019, the California Public Banking Alliance (CPBA) has continued to make significant strides in the fight for financial equity. Through our all-volunteer team's tireless efforts and our allies' support, we successfully advocated for and passed the country's first universal free banking services law, the California Public Banking Option Act (AB 1177) in 2021.

With these hard-won victories, we are now focused on turning these legislations into a reality. Our team is actively working to establish local public banks throughout California and guide the CalAccount program to successful implementation.
