Oh, what a day! Nine hundred and eighty-three of us gathered
under one roof for one primary purpose: to better understand Parkinson’s
disease. We learned, we gathered
resources and we immersed ourselves in our very special community of
support. For all of us, the 2019 Annual
Conference of the Parkinson Association of Northern California (PANC) was a
sure sign that OUR organization is
doing something right. I say OUR, because together: every support
group, every caregiver, every friend, every loved one, every physician, every
therapist, every fitness leader, every person with Parkinson’s, together, WE ARE PANC.
When I was diagnosed with
Parkinson’s disease 11 years ago, I knew nothing about it, but I did know I
could not fight it alone. I was lucky because
I found PANC. Over these past years, my
involvement in PANC has given me so much.
I now know a great deal about this disease, and I have met so many new
friends who have encouraged and supported me on this journey. These are colleagues that I have come to know
and admire for their determination, resolve, and the example they set for us
We all know that PANC is not
about ‘the cure’, but it is about enhancing the quality of life for those of us
with Parkinson’s. It is about supporting
caregivers with understanding and love.
It is about being sure that everyone who needs us knows how to find
us. It is about learning that patience
is required and that attitude is everything.
As you consider your year-end
charitable contributions, I ask that you include PANC. Support OUR
good work so that we all have a place to turn, for information, education,
answers and support. This journey we
face cannot be faced alone. The more we
join together, the more strength and comfort we feel.
