We are grateful for the generosity of MBI, Inc. of Norwalk for their many years of support, and especially appreciative of their match challenge to TRIPLE your community investment to confront the looming mental health crisis that is preying upon our community.
One in every five children in the U.S. has a diagnosable
mental health condition that requires treatment. In our service area, there are
children and adolescent children suffering from a diagnosable mental/behavioral
health disorder who are unable to receive the help they desperately need,
simply because their families are unable to afford private treatment. We want
to ensure that all youth have access to these needed services, regardless of
their ability to pay.
There is an
increasing number of high risk youth who need mental health services. In recent
years, our community has been impacted by decreasing availability of
residential and intensive out-patient programs and the closing of juvenile
transitional programs; eliminating higher level care options. Young clients and their families, already
vulnerable, now face far greater stress from the COVID-19 health emergency with
schools closed, social distancing restrictions, and living at the center of Connecticut’s
outbreak. COVID-19 has created a
nightmarish level of barriers for young people by leaving high risk youth
isolated at home and adding a new layer of job and financial insecurity for
their families. COVID-19 is causing an
alarming drop in referrals to DCF, even though we know that increased caregiver
stress raises the risk of children being exposed to domestic violence and abuse
with no means of escape.
Please help us do right by this vulnerable generation ... we must protect them at all costs.
