About Our 2022 Annual Fund
Classical music is essential to a vibrant cultural life for individuals and comminities. Partner with us in 2022 to bring the finest of today's chamber music to new audiences locally, regionally, and globally with a gift to our Annual Fund. These monies support our general operating expenses and enable us to ensure the continuing development of our artistic, educational, and outreach activities throughout the year.
Sequenza Chamber Music Inc.'s mission is to bring today’s classical music to established as well as under-served audiences by promoting the work of living composers. Founded by the artists of Duo Sequenza in 2018, Sequenza Chamber Music Inc. is the non-profit Arts, Culture & Humanities 501(c)3 organization that supports and governs their musical work. Debra Silvert, flutist, and Paul Bowman, classical guitarist, founded Duo Sequenza in 1988.
Duo Sequenza has toured extensively throughout the U.S., Asia, and Europe, and is on the Artist Roster of PARMA Recordings. While continuing to tour formal themed concerts (as much as possible in this age of COVID), they continue to develop innovative outreach and educational programs designed to peak the interest of people previously inexperienced with classical music. Their 2019 album "Yes...It's a Thing!" released by Navona Records to enthusiastic critical acclaim, is receiving airplay in nearly a dozen foreign countries, with more than 100,000 streams/downloads in 2019. Two more albums, "Yes, It's STILL a Thing!" and "Yes, It's a FRAGILE Thing!" have been scheduled for release in 2022 and 2023.
"Yes, It's a Thing!" references the duo's answer to a not-infrequent question heard when describing their work to innocent bystanders. While the duo repertoire for flute and classical guitar doesn't (yet!) rival the volume of work written for other chamber ensembles, it is more extensive than commonly realized, and much of it is really great stuff! Duo Sequenza is proud to have contributed to this repertoire with their commissions, dedications, and editions.
Their award-winning "Project Listen Up!" is a variable-length residency designed to create awareness and stimulate broad public interest in chamber music, especially new music. Duo Sequenza's musical artistry, presented in partnership with local businesses in the most unlikely non-traditional venues, demonstrates the relevancy of today’s classical music for people of all ages and walks of life. Programs are designed to introduce the transformative power unique to classical music and teach newcomers “The Art of Listening.”
Duo Sequenza’s other projects include their heralded audience-interactive concert “Journey Beyond the Notes,” their children’s program “Once Upon a Concert,” their composers’ workshop “Textures, and Gestures, and Time, Oh My!” and “Words Made Music,” suitable for literary settings.
Fundraising is a necessary evil for our artistic work to be able to thrive and have maximum impact on communities of all demographics, especially those with limited exposure to the fine arts. By partnering with us by sharing this campaign, you can free up time which we need to be able to spend on artistic pursuits, especially practice and rehearsal.
