Memorial Fund in Honor of Ambreen Babar
Help provide girls in need with the gift of education
Mrs. Ambreen Babar would have been my future mother in law. She was a fierce feminist who worked very hard to become well established. After years of studying and hard work, she opened her own private pharmacy in upstate, New York. Being ill did not stop her from achieving her goals and helping to provide for her family.
Mrs. Babar was a big believer in equality and women's rights, which were values she held dearly. Educating and helping young women to learn how to be financially independent and strong would have made her very happy. She loved art and painting and encouraged all her children to paint. She was an animal lover and frequently donated to different causes, such as a monthly donation to ASPCA. We believe launching a fundraiser for the Thaakat Foundation would be the best way to show our love and appreciation for all she gave to this world and those she loved.
Omar always speaks of her with such high regard. I would have loved to have met her and would have been honored to have such an inspirational woman as my mother in law, to help guide me and our future children. Even though I did not meet her, I still try to emulate her and use her as my inspiration to work hard every day. She was a kind, loving, strong woman who cared deeply for her family.
Omar and I plan to get married within the next few months inshAllah and I hope to honor her memory as much as possible because she is always in our hearts and she raised such an amazing son.
On behalf of Mrs. Babar we have started a fundraiser as Sadaqah Jariyah in her name towards the Thaakat Foundation. *Thaakat is a non profit that is focused on helping the underprivileged through access to education. As part of their DREAMS project, they have opened 2 schools in Pakistan and built them from the ground up, funded solely by donations.
What Life is Like for Our Students.
The villagers have built a community in the largest landfills of Karachi, Pakistan. Here is where they make their living. Every day, over 100 tons of garbage is dumped on their home turf and they must live among the burning smoke, pollutants and dangerous gasses from the waste. Many of our students work in the landfill to support their families.

Advancing the mission of female literacy
In specific, your donations will support the launch of Thaakat's first and only, All Girls Campus at DREAMS, Pakistan. This campus will serve more than 200+ students in a brand new state of the art facility. This will be complete with 10 washrooms and a water well and will be adjacent to our new women's technical training center. The funds will provide the running expenses for teacher salaries, supplies, provisions and support of our students at this school. In the harsh slum areas, parents hesitate to send their daughters to school because of the mixed gender environment. This allows girls to learn in a place where their parents have no reservations.
