Meet Your (New) Neighbor Series!
Won’t You Be Their Neighbor?

Lisa and John-David met while living in Croton-on-Hudson, NY over ten years ago. After 20 years in Social Work, Lisa had just changed careers to become an entrepreneur and artisan ice cream maker. John-David was a board-certified Master Arborist running his own business. Both had a passion for environmentalism, and soon started a local climate change organization and became trained leaders in Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project. After watching a documentary on Earthships (off-the-grid homes developed by Michael Reynolds of Taos, NM), the couple knew that this would be the next step towards their goal of living a more carbon-neutral life, and decided to buy property in Putney and build an Earthship themselves. John-David spent a month in Taos at the Earthship biotecture internship program, learning the basics of construction so that they could move forward with their own build.
When they first bought their 12 1/2 acres in Putney in 2016, John-David lived on the land solo (in a pop-up camper, an RV, and a shell of a barn), teaching himself all aspects of solar, plumbing, electrical, and major construction. Lisa has been running their certified green artisan ice cream store back in NY and commuting the last 5 years while the couple has continued to work hard on completing their vision.
In August 2021, after selling their NY home, Lisa moved to Putney full time. The couple now lives in their completed accessory apartment above the barn John-David built...while the Earthship is about 50% finished. Lisa has been managing the 4500 sf garden they planted this spring with produce she uses for her hand made ice cream. The couple live off grid with their 3 cats and golden retriever dog named Girl.
Join us for an evening getting to know our new neighbors. A link to the virtual meeting will be sent out to registered participants prior to the event.
