Promoting a Culture of Reading
CELEBRATING NATIONAL AFRICAN AMERICAN READ-IN!!*
The Metro East Literacy Project (MELP) is raising money to help build avid, lifelong readers in the St. Louis Metropolitan area. In some sections of our population, there is a serious reading crisis, and MELP is looking to raise awareness and create opportunities to help improve reading skills within the community.
Please consider donating to the virtual Metro East Literacy Project Bookshelf in the name of a favorite book such as “Where the Wild Things Are,” “Catcher in the Rye,” “The Warmth of Other Suns,”or some other favorite or inspirational book.
Let’s fill up the Metro East Literacy Project Bookshelf with your virtual books. Show how much you enjoy reading by listing your favorite books with your generous donation! Multiple opportunities to donate will be available throughout the year to celebrate various reading days.
* "The National African American Read-In is a groundbreaking effort to encourage communities to read together, centering African American books and authors. It was established in 1990 by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English to make literacy a significant part of Black History Month. This initiative has reached more than 6 million participants around the world." Learn more.
