Help us Keep Tom Jay's Watershed Bell ringing in Chimacum!
“We can’t invent or conjure beauty. It can’t be tricked or captured, but we can invite it, make room for beauty’s occasion. Beauty’s agency is an invisible conspiracy of inner and outer circumstances that inspires us to meet the world in a resounding way, a resonance of revelation that surprises us into the fellowship of creation where we belong, bell-ringing messengers sounding beauty’s necessity in a rolling peal of miracles.”
Tom Jay, The Necessity of Beauty in The Blossoms are Ghosts at the Wedding
The Chimacum Center is conducting a community campaign to help purchase the beloved bronze Watershed Bell by late artist Tom Jay, to ensure the bell stays rooted in Chimacum, to honor Tom and his artist-partner Sara Johani's profound creative contributions to this place, and to provide inspiration for the community to celebrate the values represented by the bell. The bell belongs in Chimacum, as a reminder of what our belonging to a place can be.
The Watershed Bell embodies the principles that have guided Tom and Sara for decades—Restoration, Education, Celebration. It represents the human relationship to the watershed and it will stand at Finnriver in Chimacum in honor of their legacy to the community, and to inspire a new 'Watershed Bell Fund' established to provide support arts and environmental projects created by the youth of Jefferson County.
To complete payment of the Bell we need to raise approximately $30,000. All funds raised beyond that will seed the Watershed Bell arts and education fund.

The Chimacum Center is a non-profit project of the Social Good Fund. The Chimacum Center will hold the bell in trust for the community. You can help complete the purchase of the bell and plant the seed for the future Watershed Bell Fund by making a tax-deductible donation.
