SLO Beaver Brigade

Let the BEAVERS do the work!

Did you know there are Beavers in SLO County? Did you know that they are nature’s best water engineers?


Through their natural behaviors, they improve our riparian areas, they make the landscape more resistant to fire, and they provide important habitat for a variety of other species. They build dams and lodges and ponds and passageways, and through all of this, they encourage the water to stay on the land longer, slow down, spread out, and soak IN to the landscape, literally rehydrating everything else along the way. And, importantly, did you know that you they do all this incredible engineering work, FOR FREE? 


We are the SLOBeaverBrigade and our mission is to educate our County on the benefits of beavers to our watersheds and to create the political, social and physical conditions for beavers to thrive here.   This includes educating our community and policy makers, restoring and cleaning our waterways, and celebrating the diversity of life already living in our watersheds.
