Giving Tuesday 2020
Extending Our Beacon of Light
There is so much left to be done. 2020 isn’t over. With COVID-19 cases spiking in the United States, colleges and universities in a state of flux, and a record number of hurricanes and fires falling on our communities, the Foundation is striving to be a beacon of light, guidance, and hope, and we need you to help make that impact. While the Foundation is the base of the beacon, each of our supporters adds to how brightly our light shines and how far it reaches. We are asking you to join us this Giving Tuesday, to extend our reach to those who have not yet been touched by our light and generosity, in a year where it is so desperately needed.
#GivingTuesday is the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday, where nonprofits across the world reach out for donations to fill in the various gaps created by large corporations and systemic injustice and aid vulnerable populations. This year it falls on December 1st, 2020.
Our theme for Giving Tuesday is 20/20 Vision. A lot of 2020 has been reactionary: reacting to a life-threatening virus, to institutional racism, to job loss, to unparalleled natural disasters, and much more. Instead, we want to be proactive. While we continue to address the issues we are facing today, we also want to prepare for tomorrow’s challenges. In 2021 we want to enter the year ready for problems we know will come and have resources available to combat those new and unknown.
Our goal is to fundraise at least $2,500 this Giving Tuesday, reflective of 10 COVID-19 Stipends, or 2.5 Scholarships, or 5 Educational Grants, or even 5-10 Humanitarian Relief Stipends.
Additionally, as we mentioned earlier, time volunteered on behalf of the Foundation is also precious and extends our reach throughout the community. Our goal for volunteer hours is 250 total, done safely and protected based on CDC COVID-19 guidelines in person or virtually.
