Archetypal Acting
This
class will explore character and acting approches to the work of
Bertolt Brecht and Greek Theatre (Aeschylus, Euripedes, and Sophocles).
The work of Joseph Campbell will also be referenced in the class, in
particular the power of myth as well as the directing work of Lee
Breuer. Actors will explore the use of archetype and attitude in
accessing character in ways outside of ordinary realism. This class will
also prepare students for work in the contemporary avant-garde as well
as physical theatre.
