Victor’s Story: A Deep Thinker on the Path to Success


Victor joined The GRYD Foundation Youth Squad 360 case management program in 2017. Initially, Victor was overwhelmed by school, work and his personal life. One of his first goals was to seek counseling for some of the emotional barriers that hindered him from excelling in life.  During his three years in the program, Victor has met with case managers to talk about his goals and work through obstacles getting in his way. Despite his obstacles, Victor has persevered, has been pushing through to finish his schooling and has a stronger outlook on life.  Today, Victor is two classes away from transferring to a 4-year university as a nursing major. He plans to transfer by Fall 2021.

 
Victor credits his success to being part of the Youth Squad 360 program, insisting that, “the GRYD Foundation team has really become a part of my support system and I wouldn't have been able to tackle some of the challenges I've faced over the years without them checking up on me. My case managers made it very easy to trust them and I felt comfortable expressing what I was feeling and my fears that I've been holding in for a while. I loved going to our monthly check-ins because the conversations helped me, especially when I decided to actively work on my mental health.”

Victor's case managers share his enthusiasm, noting that “Victor is an incredibly resilient young man who inspires me through his tenacity to keep moving forward and striving for happiness, meaning, and greatness.”
