SCT Communication Training Group
SCT Communication Training Group
Systems-Centered Theory (SCT)® is described as “an innovative approach to sustainable change” which:
Uses the core method of “functional subgrouping” to legitimize and explore differences within a group, in a context that holds space for safe and respectful interactions, in which all voices can be heard
An alternative to the human tendency of dismissing, ignoring, or scapegoating differences. SCT uses a unique approach to communication that is inherently inclusive of all voices, especially those that are often marginalized in society
A method of allowing our communication boundaries to remain open so that the group can survive, develop, and transform as it moves along its path to reach its goal
About Dr. Rick Campa
Dr. Rick Campa is a clinical psychologist in private practice in Austin, Texas. Dr. Campa received his Ph.D. from Boston University in 1991. He has been in private practice in Austin for the past twenty-eight years. He began training in SCT with its founder, Dr. Yvonne Agazarian, in 1999. Dr. Campa teaches SCT both locally in Texas, and at the national level at the annual SCTRI conference held every spring.
Dr. Campa has been married for twenty-two years and has four children. His wife works as director for the Fine Arts Academy at their local middle school, and she is very active in public education. Together they are active in bringing emotional education into the public school context, in order to support the development of educators, administrators, students, and families.
We are fortunate to have Rick as a TJOC consultant and we have gotten rave reviews from the initial 2-day workshop he led for TJOC in September, 2020.
As our leader and group facilitator, Rick will:
Explain the principles of SCT® to us using a format where individuals can choose to observe or participate
Lead group discussions to help us reflect on our experiences and their value to us individually and collectively
Provide each of us with a new set of valuable tools to take away from the experience which we can use both at TJOC and elsewhere in our lives
MEETING SCHEDULE & FORMAT:
- The SCT Communication Training Group is a course of study that will begin by meeting weekly for (5) 90-minute sessions, starting on Tuesday 11/10/20. Sessions will run from 6:00 PM - 7:40 PM EST. Rolling admission will be available for those who are not able to attend the initial group sessions
We hope the group will be ongoing, after the initial five sessions. Therefore, members can re-contract and sign up at TJOC to continue in 2021!

The format of the sessions will follow this agenda:
Scheduling and business issues
Next steps with a wrap-up discussion of what members learned, discovered, were surprised by, or found satisfying or dissatisfying
