[Call-to-Action] Please join MaskOutHate for #GivingTuesday to raise $250 towards Cultural and Community pride.
In 2020, MaskOutHate has empowered artists, businesses and communities of color to leverage masks as anti-racist messaging tools in celebration of our cultures and as a tool for building prosperity together. Over the past few months, MaskOutHate has organized mask-design workshops for Portland's African American, Latinx, Asian Pacific Islander, and Southwest Asian and Northern African communities facilitated by local artists Cleo Davis, Kayin Talton Davis, Sol Cejas, Brenda Madrigal, Wendi YuLing, Sarah Farahat, and Mohammed Murshed along with our somatic guide, Kulsoom Shah.
Workshop participants have consistently wanted more workshops and extended time spent in community. When asked what they enjoyed most about the events, responses included:
"Connecting to others from similar backgrounds during these times when we can't get together due to social distancing."
"Que es un grupo Latino donde podemos compartir nuestra cultura"
"community <3"
"The collaborative discussion regarding the design."
"We talked about the issues we all face."
and "Everything."
As we close out the year, we are currently in the process of fabricating seven artist designed masks, inspired through the workshops by the communities for whom they are designed! Through this mask production, we are supporting BIPOC owned farmers, producers, and fabricators and will be making masks for those in need. Please help us continue our mission into 2021 by donating today! [Donations are tax-deductible through our fiscal sponsorship with Social Good Fund]
