Help Us Make a Difference
Happy Holidays, Friends!
The holidays are a time of reflection, and everyone here at The South Coast LGBTQ+ Network is looking back on 2020 with a mix of sadness over the tragic health and economic consequences of COVID-19 and optimism that an effective solution will come soon.
2020 was an especially challenging year for our community, as the anti-LGBTQ+ policies of the outgoing administration took a heavy toll on the LGBTQ+ population, which we know is already at much higher risk for poor health, substance abuse, homelessness, anxiety, and suicide than the non-LGBTQ+ population.
Among other grim statistics, we learned this year that LGBTQ+ people are nearly four times more likely than non-LGBTQ+ people to experience violent victimization, including rape and sexual assault - in fact, 34 transgender individuals were murdered in 2020, the highest number ever reported. We also learned that nearly half of Massachusetts's LGBTQ+ youth have considered suicide, versus 11% of non-LGBTQ youth.
Against this backdrop, The Network is proud of the progress we made in 2020, working as best we could around the restrictions made necessary by the pandemic. Now we need to ask for your help.
This December, as we approach the end of a rough year for everyone, we hope you can find it in your heart and in your budget to help The South Coast LGBTQ+ Network go into 2021 with confidence, knowing that 100% of your tax-deductible donation will be put back into high-quality programming that supports the happiness, health, and growth of the LGBTQ+ community on the South Coast.
Please click here to make a donation of $100 or whatever you can afford.
Thank you so much for all your encouragement. May your holidays be filled with health, happiness, and hope.
With warm regards,
