The Heart Mind of Animals
Sunday Meditation & Talk
Animals enlarge our lives, they share our earth and waters. Animals undoubtedly have consciousness.
The mystery of life is embodied in them, and they are hungry and thirsty and frightened and endangered, and I feel for them, as I feel for us. Kindness to animals is helpful to us, a way in which our practice develops.
They are capable of empathy and a sense of humor, and help us understand that we are not alone, that we are part of a brocade, not born, not dying, one strip of white silk. One of my friends said that when he dreams of animals, he draws and paints them. The animals like that, then he is happier and a path opens.
This meditation is a time to pay attention in just such a way, and make the animals happy.
Waking up is something we do together, in the online temple on Sunday.
Meditation is not a task with a known goal. It’s something you can’t do wrong, a chance for the things of this world to come towards you and to meet you, for doors to open by themselves, and for us to see where the ancient paths lead. I love it when you join us.
