Help Feast Down East Keep on Truckin'!
Feast Down East is looking to expand their ability to bring fresh produce to you! Our small but mighty nonprofit needs to repair our box truck and expand our vehicle fleet to include a new refrigerated van.
The box truck is integral to the work of FDE as it is the primary vehicle for moving product around the region. It’s essential that the box truck have an efficient cooling unit and updated tires to continue to move farm fresh product to restaurants, institutions and schools.
Last year the box truck moved $200,395.13 worth of produce and served 29 farms. We’ve already increased our customer base and farmer network and look forward to doing more in 2021. We need the repairs now to make sure we serve our farmers through their busiest season.
The new refrigerated van would be a multipurpose asset allowing the organization to:
- Bring weekly CSA orders to Wilmington and hopefully grow this program to include more options such as the ability to build your own box, accept EBT benefits and expand pickup locations to points north and south of Wilmington
- Allow our food hub to secure products from farms that aren’t currently able to make the drive to Burgaw
- Enable the organization to expand food distribution
