Dear Just Roots Supporter,
I hope you and your family and friends are all in good health and spirits.
There is no denying that the events of the last year induced anxiety, fear, stress, and exhaustion for all of us. While we experienced these things in different ways and on different levels, much of the experience has been universal. For over a year, we’ve been confined to our homes, away from our friends and families, feeling isolated, disconnected, and unsure about the state of our country and our collective health.
For me, and for many of my family, friends, and colleagues, the pandemic is a stark reminder that we need each other, are hardwired for human connection, and are at our best when working together toward a common goal.
The past year made it clear that we are also called to move beyond supporting each other individually, and need to work to dismantle systems founded on white supremacy, which inherently disadvantage BIPOC communities. Dismantling these systems is essential to achieving parity and creating an environment where the lives of black and brown people are truly centered, valued, and respected. Our team at Just Roots takes this work very seriously, and we remain committed to cultivating a more diverse and equitable organization.
And during a time when it feels increasingly hard to do so, we continue to work with and for our community, helping people to foster deeper connections with the land, their food, and each other. Our farm provides a space for people to safely gather outside, get their hands in the soil, grow food, and connect with each other on a human level, providing space for joy and hope.
Help us to grow that hope! Come visit the farm, volunteer, stop by our farm stand, or make a donation. Every little bit helps us to cultivate food, community, and hope on Chicago’s south side. With your support, we will be able to:
$10: Covers one large pack of seeds
$25: Provide two week’s worth of fresh, organically grown fruits and vegetables for one person
$50: Provide a free sustainable agriculture workshop for one person
$100: Provides one week of food donations to the Saint James Food Pantry
On behalf of our team at Just Roots, thank you for helping us to bring a little more hope into the world!
