Give Him Five!
New Mexico Advocates for the Arts Executive Director Celebrates 5 Years with the Organization
Join us in celebrating Robert Palacios' five years with the New Mexico Advocates for the Arts! Born and raised in Las Cruces, music has always been an important part of Robert's life. He remembers many days home with his family listening to music. When he was with his grandfather, they would spend time out on the porch with Spanish music playing over a little portable radio. While in grade school, an orchestra visited Alameda Elementry and that was the day he decided he would one day play the bass. In 2002 he would join his middle school mariachi program and attend his first Las Cruces International Mariachi Conference.
Today, you will find him volunteering throughout our community with organizations and schools. He sits on the Governing Council for La Academia Dolores Huerta, a charter middle school that focuses on bilingual and cultural arts education. He sits on the Board of Directors for the Las Cruces Symphony Association and has been active with the Las Cruces Hispanic Chamber of Commerce as well as the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce.
Over the past five years, he has worked diligently in breathing new life into the Las Cruces International Mariachi Conference. His dedication and motivation has taken the New Mexico Advocates for the Arts (NMAFTA) from organizing the annual mariachi conference to now being the parent nonprofit for Camerata del Sol, a community chamber orchestra, and the Las Cruces Youth Orchestras. Under NMAFTA's mission, there is still room for growth and we look forward to many more years under his direction. Robert continues to volunteer his time and talents with New Mexico Advocates for the Arts and for that we give him a big THANK YOU and applaud his efforts.
When asked how he would like to celebrate his five years, he said, "Let's raise some money!" With that being said, we bring you Give Him Five! Certainly a little play on words but definitely a congratulation on his work. We invite you to make a contribution of today of $5. This can be a one-time donation or you can choose to donate this amount on a regular basis. As our organization continues to grow so does our need to bring in funding for our programs. We welcome donations of any size, big or small, and thank you, the community for supporting our mission and arts education.
