Drive East 2021
AWARE. AWAKE.
It’s our 10th year!
Navatman completes a decade of Drive East. Join us as we bring together artists from different genres of the Indian performing arts for one of the most ambitious—and lauded—congregations of Indian classical music and dance outside of India.
To mark our 10th anniversary, we are happy to announce a long term vision for Drive East - one where we dive into a deeper understanding of how we create impact as artists individually and consider the world around us, then bring this thought process together into a movement of change and understanding, finally linking it to a sustainable future.
This year, Drive East delves deeper to understand ‘What it actually means to be a conscious artist’.
Artists evolve as we move forward in our careers, and as we ask our artists of this year what it is to be a conscious artist, we realize there is no singular answer. Each artist is focused on various aspects: sharing their choreography process to new artists, preserving lineage and traditions, opening up traditions that are normally closed off. What is consistent however is that every conscious artist is thinking about how they will impact the field around them, and why it is necessary. This year, we explore what it is to become a conscious artist, and the myriad of questions and paths an artist takes to distill this vision into action as they grow.
