Nepal Surgical Mission -- “Reaching the Unreached”
About:
We started going to Nepal in 2010.
We’ve run missions in Dhankuta, Lahan, and Chisapani in
Nepal and further expanding.
This is a multidisciplinary
surgical mission to help the poor and needy of Nepal to decrease their burden
and reach out to those people who are unreached, thus called “Reaching the
Unreached”. The mission reaches as many people who have been carrying the
burden of these surgical issues and having to ignore it because of poverty and
access to care while they struggling to eat 1-2 meals a day.
The mission will and has always
been free of cost for every patient who will be taken care of by our team,
especially targeting the poor and underserved areas in Nepal.
Our surgical mission has a major OR (General,
Gyn and plastic surgeries), minor OR (lumps and bumps- same-day surgeries AKA
outpt dept: OPD), dental clinic. We run about 4-5 major OR tables, 2-3 tables
in OPD and 3-5 dental chairs.
Types of Surgical Procedure we do
Hernia repair, inguinal, umbilical, incisional,
Hydrocele repair, adult and kids, Gall Bladder surgery, burn
contracture release, Cleft
lip/palate, Uterine, and Vaginal prolapses, Ovarian
cyst removal, Dental procedures which include but
not limited to extractions, restorations, filling.
We did our first Dental only
mission to Nepal in 2019 with the intent to expand and reach more people in
other parts of the country. Each year we grow and grow with a plan to add
new sub-specialties.
In addition, minor surgeries, excising benign small masses and bumps and lumps in an outpatient room setting.

Moreover, we also fit LN-4 Hands to amputees, they are free of cost to us and to the patient as well, a mechanical hand that can be used for simple activities of daily living, like carrying less than 10 Kg, can ride a bicycle, write, hold cups and a spoon to eat with. We have already distributed around 500 hands in the last 7 years. Check out their website: https://ln-4.org

We also install solar suitcases in
health posts without any electricity, given them light to help with delivering
babies in a proper light source where they were using a flashlight. We have
installed 12 of these units https://wecaresolar.org each unit costs us around $1800.00
Aloha Medical Mission Team: Total of
70-100 volunteers participate each year from the US (50-70) and in-country
Nepalese volunteers (30-50) take part in each mission and without their
contributions and hard work none of this is possible.
All Volunteers of the mission pay
their own expenses including flight, lodging, and food as well. Thus, all
donations made go directly to the care of the patient it was intended for by
the donors.

2018 REPORT:
Surgical Mission, Dhankuta, Nepal
Location: Dhankuta District Hospital, Dhankuta, Nepal.

Dhankuta District Hospital, 4800 ft elevation, 24 bed capacity, contains one operating room normally not used for major surgery. Patient catchment area approximately 25,000 population.
