Countering elder exploitation & fraud

Have you or anyone that you know and care for been a victim of a scam or fraud? In trying to report the incident to law enforcement, has the matter been dismissed as a civil case or a non-crime? Often, crimes of deceit and persuasion that target vulnerable adults, are misunderstood due to a lack of familiarity or training.
According to the FBI, in 2020, senior citizens lost almost $1 billion in scams with the highest number in California, Florida, and Texas.
Here are some actual examples of recent incidents where this has happened:
- Two women scammed out of $185,000 in Social Security phone scams.
- Woman deceived into paying over $560,000 in a Gold Bar Investment Scam.
- Over $966 million in 2020 was reported lost through elder financial fraud; much more is never reported. One in five people over the age of 65 has been the victim of Elder Financial Fraud.
- Elderly man lost $124,000 in an Amazon scam.
- Elderly victim swindled out of $100,000 in a psychic fraud.
The examples seem to be endless. It is time to stop this crime through education, enforcement, and engineering.
Help us work to stop this tragic victimization. Many victims lose their entire life savings with no hope of making it up. In some cases the loss is generational. Often, the money is lost to a predator outside the U.S.
The National Association of Bunco Investors (NABI) is
comprised of members from law enforcement and related fields devoted
exclusively to assist in the identification, apprehension, and prosecution of
Confidence Crime and certain other Non-Traditional Organized Crime group
suspects.
The crimes committed by these suspects are particularly devastating to our senior citizens. Examples of these crimes are the Home Repair Fraud, Fortune Telling Fraud, Sweetheart Swindles, Home Invasion Burglaries, Lottery Scam, Grandparent Scam, and many other crimes that exploit the elderly.
NABI enhances communication between law enforcement agencies and allows members to share information by distributing a weekly intelligence log, printing descriptions of current crimes, maintaining a database of suspects, and providing expert training by conducting regional and national seminars.
NABI maintains a website with lots of valuable information, not only for law enforcement but for the public.
Our networking group of like-minded professionals from throughout the United
States, Canada, and the United Kingdom have been instrumental in helping solve crimes that would
have remained unsolved had it not been for our unique communication system.
For a donation of $50 or more, we will send you a limited edition NABI Commemorative Coin.
NABI is a 501c(3) non-profit corporation and exists solely on dues and donations and is represented in four countries on three continents.
