The power of 5!
Medhansh - Never give up
When Medhansh Sankaran and his parents moved from India to Bentonville, Arkansas, he worried that he would lose his rich heritage of classical Indian performing art. He had discovered Bharatanatyam, a beautiful, lyrical Indian dance tradition when he was just nine years old, and his greatest desire was to continue to study, practice, and perform it.
But in Northwest Arkansas, he found that the only class that offered Bharatanatyam was all female. Male dancers are a proud and vital part of Bharatanatyam, but the training and requirements are markedly different from that of the female dancers. Medhansh almost gave up hope.
But then his parents found the Ra-Ve Cultural Foundation (RVCF). RVCF has, in its tireless quest to bring the classical performing arts of India to Northwest Arkansas, greatly increased the visibility and awareness of Indian culture throughout the area. And with that increased awareness, new opportunities have opened for students of Bharatanatyam—female AND male.
Partnering with RVCF, Medhansh’s parents ensured that he would continue to be motivated, by learning, performing, and attending RVCF-sponsored concerts and workshops by Master artists. Today, he is known as one of the most accomplished Bharatanatyam dancers in the area; he is in great demand and admired by all.
There are hundreds of people, of all ages, in the Northwest Arkansas area that are just like Medhansh. They know that they are heirs to an incredibly rich, ancient, and diverse culture, yet they sorrow that that culture could be lost to them forever.
Please give generously to Ra-Ve Cultural Foundation, so that we may continue to keep classical Indian arts alive—for this generation and for all those to follow!
