On and off the bench, the judiciary is required to avoid engaging in discrimination in a variety of bases, including sexual orientation and gender identity. This presentation will provide an overview of issues and concerns LGBTQ participants in the family law system face, answer questions that the bench may have about the alphabet soup of statuses covering sexual orientation and gender identity, and help the bench identify ways to instill confidence that the family law system will fairly and respectfully handle the legal issues of the LGBTQ community.
