Saint Francis Homelessness Challenge
A member of Intersection for the Arts
Our mission is to end the crisis conditions of street homelessness in San Francisco. There are 1,000+ people sleeping on San Francisco's sidewalks and streets each night. Each of these individuals need a safe organized space to belong in community on their path to healing and stable housing while city leadership expands our supply of affordable housing, rent subsidies, and low-barrier shelter. Safe Organized Spaces are transitional villages administered by nonprofits on underutilized public/private land with individual "tiny home" shelters or insulated tents, essential amenities, gathering spaces, health and safety standards, participatory management structure and support, license agreements, insurance, pathways to housing and jobs, on-site support staff, and a community-integration team. Build political will by adding your name to the SOS Petition today!
Saint Francis Homelessness Challenge supports the design and piloting of innovative approaches that increase access to secure sleep, 24/7 toilets, and services for unhoused neighbors; engages both unhoused and housed residents in meaningful action and advocacy through creative and educational messaging, videos, social media, and events; and infuses the policy of Bay Area government and local culture with the spirit of Saint Francis. Challenge yourself & your city to take necessary action for unhoused neighbors: Secure sleep, 24/7 toilet access, & healing/transition services.
