Give a Chicken Project
In June of 2015 a work team from Indiana started a small chicken egg laying business for HIA so the children of Wayom Timoun orphanage could receive an egg a day to supply needed nutrition. This resulted in supporting HIA with the growth of a small business allowing the orphanage to move toward with a self-sustaining facility. The chicken project helps to feed orphans, employee Haitian workers, vocational training for the older orphans and filters all profits back into the orphanage. In conjunction with the much needed nourishment aspect, it supplies the children with medical care, an education, and supports the employment of quality caregivers to oversee the children.
The chicken coop has the capacity to house 3,200 chickens, employ roughly 8 Haitian families, and provides the sale of eggs to a country that has a severe egg shortage. Malnutrition is a major crisis in Haiti, and eggs are an excellent source of high quality protein reducing hunger and supplying the body with 13 vital vitamins and minerals.
By purchasing an egg laying chicken for $25, you can help us reach our goal of 3,200 chickens. Your donation will also supply the chicken with veterinarian care, feedings, and the employment of a Haitian for 2 years. Thank you for considering donating to our Chicken Project.
