Help the Juneau Senior Nutrition Program
On behalf of Juneau’s senior citizens who benefit from our hot and nutritious meals, we would like to request a donation. Your support will help to ensure that meals are available to seniors five days per week. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Juneau Senior Center is not currently hosting congregate meals, but we are continuing to provide meals to seniors via home delivery and plan to re-open our congregate services as soon as it is safe to do so.
These meals help seniors, many of whom are on fixed incomes, maintain health and independent living, speed recovery from surgery or illness, and prevent disease. Additionally, home delivery volunteers provide an important safety check for those living alone. Particularly now, with the risks associated with COVID-19, it is crucial to support the health and wellbeing of our seniors. Meals are currently delivered by volunteers five days per week to all Senior Center clients. Once our centers re-open, complete and balanced meals will be available five days per week at the Juneau Senior Center and two days per week at our satellite site, the Douglas Senior Center.
We are thrilled to report that last year we provided 40,850 home-delivered meals to 310 homebound elders and clients with disabilities, as well as congregate meal clients while congregate service has been suspended, in Juneau. This represents a significant increase in meals served from the previous year when we provided a total of 31,158 meals to congregate and home delivery clients.
This year, increased
demand for meals and home deliveries has increased our costs for food and
containers. We depend on individuals,
such as you, to help us continue this essential service.
