Rachel Marie Moore (Douglass), 42, passed away Monday, October 25, 2021 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, MO. She was born in Merriam, KS to Katherine and John Douglass. She grew up in Olathe and Overland Park, Kansas. She attended Morse Elementary School, Harmony Middle School and Blue Valley High School. At Blue Valley High School Rachel excelled in debate, band, theater and forensics. In her junior year, Rachel went to nationals with her forensics team.
She attended Johnson County Community College. It was there that she meet her husband, David Moore. They were both cast in a play called, “The Diviners” in the fall of 1997. They began dating in February of 1998, got engaged in January of 1999 and were married in August of 2000.
The year before they got married Rachel and David founded RPM Entertainment, a video production and photography company, which they built from the ground up. Rachel created and managed the photography division which handled weddings as well as baby and family photos. Rachel and RPM were awarded numerous “Best Of” Kansas City Wedding Photographers awards over the years. She amassed hundreds of clients, many of whom remain friends of hers to this day. Rachel loved photography and adored her clients. She loved getting to know them and telling their stories. Rachel’s passion for her work drove her to go back to college at JCCC to earn a degree in graphic design.
In August of 2004, Rachel welcomed her daughter, Erin, into the world. Then, in June of 2007 her son, Andrew, was born. Finally, in December of 2009 her daughter Emily completed their family of five. These three children were the light of Rachel’s life. When they were younger, Rachel would sing “You are my Sunshine” and Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds” to them. She continued to sing these songs to her children when they were sick, sad, upset or just needed to cuddle. In recent years, she loved seeing Erin play in her high school band, Andrew join his high school debate team and her little Emily begin to play the flute in 6th grade. Nothing in life brought Rachel greater joy than Erin, Andrew and Emily.
Rachel was diagnosed in March of 2019 with stage 4 colon cancer. Her passion over the last two and a half years has been to raise awareness about this disease. She urged family, friends and anyone who would listen to get regular screenings or a colonoscopy if they’re experiencing constipation, rectal bleeding, fatigue, unexplained weight loss, cramping or abdominal pain.
Rachel is survived by her husband, David; her three children, Erin, Andrew and Emily; her parents, John and Kathy Douglass; her siblings Mike Douglass, Brian Douglass (husband Grant Mury) and Megan Breiner (husband David Breiner); her nieces and nephews, Cheyenne, Max, Shawn, Cody, Lucas, Katelynn and Iona; her mother-in-law, Debbie Moore and her sister-in-law, Michelle Moore (husband Benji Hunter).
