Please allow yourself
to imagine the following: It’s the end
of a fabulous symphony concert. And at
the end of there is a little child who is so moved by the performance and who
claps enthusiastically and jumps around for joy. This little child who has both profound
physical and cognitive impairments loudly announces to her parents (and to all
within earshot) that she is going to perform music professionally on stage just
like that orchestra. Now imagine you are
her parents. What would you as a loving
parent do? What could you say, to
encourage this child to the fullest extent, but at the same time knowing her
particular limitations/disabilities?
Would you tell her “Honey, I think that’s a wonderful dream to follow”, inwardly
knowing full well that no professional group, let alone a world-class
orchestra would be inclined to help this child fulfill this “childish” dream of
playing music on a big stage with the big boys and girls?
The idea for Hearts
For Music was born out of that scenario, replayed around the world constantly
for families with loved ones with special needs who love music. Parents in that situation experience 2
emotions: Happiness, that their child
has been given fuel to drive themselves towards a dream of performing music,
and Sadness from the realization that their child in all likelihood would be
prevented from achieving that dream due to his/her disabilities.
Hearts For Music, Inc
is a 501(c)(3) non-profit based in Ohio, USA and we are proud to be the
world’s first special needs orchestra and/or instrumental ensemble. Utilizing a
combination of keyboards, iPads, and acoustic instruments, orchestra members
will explore and perform a variety of classical and popular works. Unique to Hearts For Music, Inc is the belief
that no disability however severe or profound can truly stand in the way
of one’s desire to create and perform music. Our goal for our beloved orchestra
members is simple: to have tremendous fun creating music together with others
and to experience the unique rush of exhilaration that comes from performing on
stage for others. Hearts For Music aims to show that when given the right
tools, infinite patience, and love, all disabilities
can be transformed into abilities is remarkable, life-changing ways.
Your kind donation of
money will go towards the acquisition and maintenance of keyboards and iPads
and other instruments/adaptive devices for our special needs orchestra members;
creating multiple Hearts For Music orchestra groups throughout the US; assist
us in our basic infrastructure needs to keep on rolling through the years and
eventually take over the whole world. Our website is www.heartsformusic.org
