MVCC Donation Matching
We have Great News! A dental hygiene school is coming back to the Fifth District! As you may know, it’s been a long haul trying to secure a permanent home for this important and much-needed program.
The Rome Campus of Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) will be home to the new program. MVCC is as excited as we are and fully understands the urgency and need for new dental hygiene graduates. Together, we are anticipating an optimistic first class enrollment of August 2023, with a graduating class in May of 2025.
To get the ball rolling, MVCC will need to hire a director/consultant to design the clinic, develop the curriculum, and work with SUNY, the NYS Education Department, and the Council on Dental Accreditation (CODA). A total budget number of $40,000 has been suggested for this interim part-time position.
The New York State Dental Foundation (NYSDF) has generously agreed to match our fundraising efforts up to $20,000. This is exciting and we are ever so grateful to the Foundation for its generosity.
This is not the first time that the Foundation has helped a dental hygiene program in the Fifth District; when the clinic was housed at the Veterans Administration, the Foundation donated a new $10,000 compressor.
Now, with the Foundation’s matching pledge, we need to raise the other $20,000. To that end, we hope all our members will join us in this endeavor.
The need, as many of you are all too well aware, is great.
Please donate what you can to the Foundation so that we may hit the ground running ASAP!
