Left to suffer!

Saving Kiah
December 2nd, 2021
Urgent rescue happening NOW!
TLP just received an urgent phone call from one of our shelter partners about a pregnant momma who has miscarried. She was surrendered to the shelter with a torn and untreated teet, leaving her with an open and likely infected wound. It is likely that this poor momma still has her miscarried puppies inside of her and she needs IMMEDIATE medical attention. TLP is currently executing a transport to get her to an emergency vet in hopes of getting her in stable condition. We’ve named her Kiah, meaning the start of a new season. We desperately need your help to start raising funds for her medical needs. Can you help us save Kiah?

Transport Update
December 2nd, 2021 9:00pm
Kiah has safely arrived at the emergency vet. She is in extreme condition, but she is fighting. The vet staff is doing everything they can to keep her comfortable and manage her pain. Due to the preliminary overnight estimate of expenses, we are raising our fundraising goal for $4,500. We will continue to provide updates as her medical care updates. Kiah has a hard fight ahead of her and she needs the TLP community in her corner. THANK YOU for all of the support for Kiah that is already pouring in for her emergency medical care. Please consider donating or purchasing an item from her wishlist.

Weekend Update
December 4th, 2021
Our beautiful Kiah had a long night. Her injuries and ailments are even worse than we feared. Here’s what we’ve learned:
Some of the tissue in Kiah’s wound is necrotic, meaning it is NOT a recent injury. She also has a dislocated hip which will require a surgical procedure known as FHO. Additionally, she has a wound on her paw that needs to be addressed, she is dehydrated, and she is borderline anemic. Preliminary x-rays also show Kiah has an enlarged heart. Last night, she received IV fluid, antibiotics, and pain medication. The emergency vet did a fantastic job getting her stable enough to be transported to our vet partners today where she will continue to receive life saving care. Today’s goal is to allow her time to rest, continue her IV fluids, and manage her pain.
We are truly overwhelmed by the support our TLP community has shown Kiah. YOU all have rallied behind her and raised over $4,000 which has helped cover her medical expenses thus far. Kiah was severely neglected and she still has a long road ahead of her. We are dedicated to keeping you updated on Kiah as we learn more from the vet. Please watch our stories on social media for daily updates and quick check-ins. As her medical expenses rise, we will adjust her fundraising needs according to vet recommended testing, care, and medications. If you haven't already, you can donate to Kiah here or shop her wishlist here. Can you help us raise awareness for Kiah by sharing her story?

Medical Care Update
December 8th, 2021
Last Thursday, TLP rescued Kiah, a severe neglect case with a long list of injuries and ailments. She was dehydrated, anemic, and nearly septic. She also had a necrotic wound and several injuries to her legs. Kiah was immediately transported to an emergency vet where she received truly life-saving care and once she was stable enough, she was transported to our vet partner. Over the past few days, Kiah has received IV fluids, antibiotics, and pain medication and has been building her strength.
Yesterday, our vet partners sent us a photo with the most amazing news! Our sweet Kiah was able to eat dry kibble on her own and determined she was strong enough to undergo surgery yesterday. Originally, the purpose of this procedure was to close up her wound. However, thanks to the cleaning and treatment she received at the emergency vet, the wound has improved enough that she can continue to heal on her own. Instead, she received her FIRST FHO surgery on her left hip. Yes, first, because we have now learned she will need a second FHO surgery on her right hip as well as a third procedure on her left patella. This first FHO surgery alone is estimated to cost about $2,800.
We know this may sound negative or overwhelming, but we are really happy with Kiah’s prognosis. She has a long and expensive road ahead of her, but she is expected to make a full recovery, post-surgery. This is GREAT news! Just 5 days ago, Kiah was neglected and nearly dead. Now, she is safe and loved and has a whole community of people cheering her on.
Our TLP community has shown Kiah tremendous support thus far. We know with your help, we can continue to give Kiah the care she was so cruelly deprived of. We know we have asked a lot of you in these past few days, but we truly need your continued support. Please consider making a donation to her medical care or purchasing an item from her wishlist.

TLP’s resident warrior, Kiah, prepares for her THIRD surgery May 09, 2022
From the moment TLP rescued Kiah from the shelter, this girl was a fighter. She has battled through dislocated limbs, open wounds, and multiple surgeries. Today, Kiah will face her next obstacle - her THIRD surgery.
Kiah’s medical expenses have cost TLP more than $10,000! If you’ve been following her journey thus far, you know that, while Kiah has made progress, her mobility continues to be limited. Despite two surgeries and continued hydrotherapy, she still has difficulty putting weight on her back leg. We are hopeful this subsequent surgery will inch Kiah closer to her mobility goals.
You can support Kiah by donating to her medical expenses or purchasing an item from her wishlist. Mental enrichment will play a significant role in Kiah’s recovery, so things like Kongs and puzzle toys are beneficial. Additionally, the vet recommends fish-based products to help Kiah’s joints, so fishy food and treats would also be much appreciated.
Kiah, and all of us at TLP, thank you for your ongoing support of her rescue journey!
