Brianna's Story: A Survivor with a Determination to Survive

Brianna didn’t realize she was in a domestic violence situation.  Brianna says “I should have recognized it but when you’re on the inside looking in it’s harder to gain perspective than those on the outside looking in.  I remember the night I had to flee with my kids.  I don’t know what I said or did but all of a sudden I remember being hit and knocked against the wall.  I didn’t run immediately. Instead, I washed the blood from my mouth to make sure the kids didn’t see it and went to them, smiling, and said Hey guys let’s go for a ride.  That night we slept in the truck and when the morning came I realized that I didn’t grab clothes for me or the kids, personal hygiene products, or anything, just us.  I checked the balance on my card and realized that I had only enough money for food for one day.  So that left me torn between at least one change of clothes, food, or going back to the abusive situation.  I decided to at least get some breakfast for the kids hoping they wouldn’t eat it all and we could have it for lunch.  As I pulled into the parking lot of the gas station I saw a lady with a T-shirt on that said Ella Bebe Angels When Life Comes Home After All Hope is Gone.  I spoke to her and asked about her shirt, hoping that it was an answer to my prayer.  As she told me that she has an organization for domestic violence survivors I immediately started crying.  I later found out her name was Angelina Hines and she gave me some information on her organization.  I told her about the experience that I had the day before and that I only had enough money to either get food, clothes, or shelter for my kids.  She immediately went to her car and pulled out some things that she said she was going to take to her gifting store. She also gave me a confirmation number to their emergency shelter place where I could go safely with my kids. God was answering my prayers!! I got things for me and my children and Mrs. Hines bought us food and gave me resources as to where I can get more.

We have to get people to understand that they are not alone and that they can make it out. It takes many hands and voices to do this work and Ella Bebe Angels helped me find my voice so that I can talk to other survivors. To educate, To empower, and To engage survivors of domestic violence.”

Angelina shares Brianna’s enthusiasm but refuses to take all the credit:  “Brianna is an extraordinary young lady and continues to motivate me through her determination and strength.  I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to help guide her on her path to independence and survivorship."
