This program is dedicated to all the people whom we have lost since the last time we were together before the pandemic. The centerpiece of this a cappella concert is Eleanor Daley’s Requiem—the Canadian composer’s gentle and heartfelt setting of the traditional Latin texts is interspersed with psalms and poetry in English. The concert also includes an excerpt of one of the most beloved masses for the dead, the Requiem by Gabriel Fauré, arranged for unaccompanied choir. Other works, suitable for a memorial service, include shorter pieces by Pavel Chesnokov, Ola Gjeilo, Melissa Dunphy, and other contemporary composers.
There will be a pre-concert lecture by Sanford Dole 30 minutes before the performance.
NOTE: All BCG singers and staff have been vaccinated against Covid-19. Both singers and audience must observe all government health mandates that are in force on the day of each concert and any requirements imposed by the concert venue. This may include providing proof of vaccination and/or wearing masks.
