This program is dedicated to all the people whom we have lost since the last time we were together before the pandemic. The centerpiece of this a cappella concert is Eleanor Daley’s Requiem—the Canadian composer’s gentle and heartfelt setting of the traditional Latin texts is interspersed with psalms and poetry in English. The concert also includes an excerpt of one of the most beloved masses for the dead, the Requiem by Gabriel Fauré, arranged for unaccompanied choir. Other works, suitable for a memorial service, include shorter pieces by Pavel Chesnokov, Melissa Dunphy, Jake Runestad and other contemporary composers.
There will be a pre-concert lecture by Sanford Dole 30 minutes before the performance.
NOTE: All BCG singers and staff have been vaccinated against Covid-19, and the chorus will be wearing masks. We are requiring that all audience members also remain masked throughout the performance and that all audience members who are 12 or older present both proof of vaccination (including booster, if eligible) and ID at the concert entrance.
